After approximately 60 days, the hatchlings begin to emerge. When hatched, they contain a yolk sack that they can live on for for several months.

The next step is certification that the turtles are "Salmonella Free". The state veterinarian samples every lot of 20,000 baby turtles.

|
|
The turtles are then carefully hand counted and again cleaned, getting them ready for shipment.
